Dr. Hacker & Dr. Hanson,
Just a quick note that, hopefully, you can pass along to future patients…….never, ever, think you have to slow down or quit doing things because you need a joint replacement!
Last weekend, I just completed the Belgian Waffle Ride. A 131-mile gravel bike race that featured 80 miles of pavement and 51 miles of dirt. I was in the saddle for 9 hours and 28 minutes and some temperatures reached 115 degrees. Joints felt great and I finished strong! Many more cycling and motorcycle events in the future because you never stop going!

Thanks again, guys………David

Dr. Hanson,
I celebrated the two-week anniversary of my new hip implant with a two-mile walk. Not very fast, but with no negative after-effects. The advocates of the posterior approach may be right that after six months there is no difference, but to the patient, a few months of more activity can be meaningful. I’m grateful to be as mobile as I am, and much of that is due to you.

Dr. H,
An update: My hip is as normal as I could ever expect; seems miraculous compared to the other hip. I took a 5-mile hike with incline last week and ZERO negative effect. It was an amazing recovery, better than the previous hip. I continue to be indebted to you.

Post-op week 6-7: Hiking every other day between Sedona AZ and Vail, CO 2-3 miles 490-500 foot elevation gain. I want to do even more. Thank you Dr. Hanson.
Just finished skiing over 59K vertical feet 7 months after my Hemiarthroplasty. I was able to make turns like never before without any pain or swelling!! Thank you so much. Both knees protected by matching Don Joy braces. Two more weeks of skiing then off to heli-skiing in Canada in the end of February.

“To Dr. Hanson and his team:
One year ago today you changed my life for the better and I want to thank you. For your professionalism, discipline, vision, commitment, sacrifice, passion, compassion, knowledge, and everything else that has given me the ability to live such a great life.
I have no pain, I take no medication and my only complaint is that there are not enough hours of daylight to get more things done!
Thank you for your kindness and the ability to live a full and pain-free life. I am the luckiest guy on earth, never more so than in my friendship with you all!”

Thanks Dr. Hanson for giving me my life back with the new knee. Here I am in my pedicab. Check out the scar on my left knee! I’ve also gotten back to competitive cycling, and I appreciate the personal attention to my surgery and recovery.

“What’s interesting about pain is it kind of takes over your mind as well as your body. Being active is like breathing air for me. I feel like I’m 80. After I have my hip then I can progressively move back into Adele… Because I don’t know who this person is.”
8 weeks after surgery…
“Titanium, ceramic, it’s all good. I’m a bionic woman. The door of life is open to me. The fact that I walk now and am not in pain… it’s beyond words.”

“I’d heard a lot about Dr. Peter Hanson and he was my choice. He agreed to do my surgery and it was a phenomenal experience. He’s like a miracle worker in terms of a surgeon. I was in the hospital two nights and I was up walking right away, climbing stairs. In fact they labeled me as a rock star I was doing so well!
I can’t say enough about Dr. Hanson and his ability to fix a hip and bring a person back to a lifestyle that I had before.”

“A Pair of Best Friends, a Pair of New Hips.”
Greta Treadgold and Beverley Dean are best friends, linked by a common bond beyond evening cocktails, a book group and lunch dates. The La Jolla and San Diego residents both had hip replacement procedures performed by the same surgeon, less than a year apart.
“At first, I thought I pulled a groin muscle during a Pilates class,” admitted Dean, who was a fitness instructor at a local YMCA. “So I got an X-ray and the doctor tells me that I don’t have any cartilage. I have osteoarthritis.”
The shocking news prompted Dean to research hip replacement surgeries in San Diego, and a physician friend strongly encouraged her to seek the anterior approach procedure.

“I am a 59 year old male with severe Osteo Arthritis. I am an Allied Health professional that has been working in the Cardiac surgical field for 30 years. I also have worked in Orthopedics as well. Before my first hip replacement in 2009 I researched the differences in surgical approaches for hip replacement surgery. The anterior approach made more sense to me because no muscles groups have to be cut as with traditional hip surgery and the incision is on the front not the back of your leg. When I discovered that the professional golfer Tom Watson had his hip replacement performed with the anterior approach just six months before he came in second in the British Open I was sold. That said, it matters who does your surgery!! Dr. Hanson has performed hundreds of anterior approach hip replacements and is very good at it.

“Hey everybody – I was 60 years old when I had my experience with terrible hip pain, and I have one word that sums up my Total Hip Replacement done by Dr. Peter Hanson – UNBELIEVABLE !!! The first thing I remember after waking up was that the horrible “bone chilling” pain was gone !! They had me up shortly after I woke up and I felt like a new man. A short stroll with a walker and I was ready for a cane. In a few days I started therapy and ALL the therapists were AMAZED at my range of motion – the supervisor said I must have had “the best surgeon EVER” – I happen to agree ! The team was great – the medications were perfectly adequate and the process was flawless. I was back to full exercising in a month – started on the elipse machine – unrestricted – 2 weeks after surgery. No doubt, being fairly fit helped, but the thing I want to do is to encourage anyone contemplating hip replacement, – TALK TO DR. HANSON AND HIS TEAM !!!
In all sincerity, Arthur”

“Around the second week in April 2013 after working in the yard I noticed a small pain going down my thigh from my groin. The next day the pain was worse and I had some other pain in my right thigh area as well. The third day the pain was even worse. I knew something was wrong, but not sure what. Thoughts went through my mind – maybe it is cancer or MS or something like that. Since I was going to start Medicare on 5/1/13, I decided to wait until then to see the doctor. I went to see a highly regarded orthopedic surgeon and was diagnosed with arthritis of the right hip joint.
